A comprehensive lesson covering everything you need to know to start clay shooting
Adults | £70 |
Children (16 years and under) | £50 |
On arrival at the clubhouse please book in at the desk and you will be introduced to the two resident instructors Steve Brown and Steph Trill who between them have many years of experience as instructors.
Gun Hire, cartridges, ear and eye protection are all included. Everyone shoots up to 25 shots each.
The lessons can last up to an hour and half.
Your first lesson will start with a safety briefing, an introduction to the gun, a description of all the parts, how it works and how to hold a gun correctly in a safe manner.
We then move on to look at stance and eye dominance. Clay pigeon is a binocular sport so ideally we would like you to shoot with both eyes open as this assists with depth of field, speed and reaction time when your brain sees and reacts to the clay. At this point we will ensure the gun we are going to use fits you correctly.
As the lesson progresses we will show you how to load and unload the gun safely and dispense with the cartridges, we shall also describe the various methods of shooting and the different disciplines you can shoot.
Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the weather conditions, as we shoot all year round.

The CPSA Shotgun skills course offers a rigorous, hands-on training through all aspects of clay shooting.
We welcome all kinds of shooters – from new shooters, novices and to those who are in need of a refresher before returning to the sport.
The course includes personal and range safety, different types of shotguns, cartridges, chokes, as well as gun maintenance and licensing.
We explain the CPSA method of shooting and take what is learnt in the classroom out on the range for a practical session.
With our comprehensive gun equipment on hand, including a loan gun, cartridges and ear protection.
Certificates are awarded to everyone on passing the course.
I got into shooting after I Injured my knee playing tennis and I couldn’t compete anymore. My husband and I decided to take up something different so I started clay shooting and loved it!
Ironically it was Steve who taught us both and introduced us to the shooting world.
Having coached tennis professionally for over 30 years, I thought that maybe I could use my teaching skills and put them to good use with clay shooting, so three years ago I qualified as a CPSA level 1 Instructor and I love introducing new shooters to our sport. I am also a member of the Institute of Clay Shooting Instructors.
Steve and I love working at Mill Farm, it’s a lovely atmosphere with both the members and the staff.
It’s rewarding watching the shooters that we teach grow and improve and get the same enjoyment from shooting as we both do.
I have been involved in both clay and game shooting over the past thirty years and I have a passion for all aspects of the sport.
I qualified as a CPSA Instructor in 2011 and have recently joined the Institute of Clay Shooting Instructors.
I enjoy teaching new pupils how to shoot and to get the basics right as well as helping those who already shoot.
We can tailor our lessons to help shooters improve or resolve issues they might be having on a variety of disciplines.
Assisted rounds are also available for those shooters that no longer require a basic lesson but want to improve their scores and consistency. Both Steph and myself are able to deliver shotgun skills modules 1 & 2 which are a great introduction to clay pigeon shooting.
