Statutory guidance change for all certificate holders and those applying for licences
Did you know?
Up until recently if a licence holder or new licence applicant applied for a licence and they missed declaring a medical condition or conviction then it would be up to your friendly Firearm Enquiry Officer to use their discretion on whether to grant a licence or not.
However, this change will now mean that any omission may lead to a renewal application being refused or a new licence not granted and if the omission is seen as deliberate may lead to a conviction. The application must match the records.
It is also the licence holder’s responsibility to notify and keep proof of change of address, sale or purchase of guns and renewals within the required time frame. Failure to provide the necessary proof, if requested, may see their licence being revoked and enforcement action taken.
Please allow 6 months for licence renewals.
Please remember the question on the licence is “have you ever” had a medical condition or conviction….. NOT “have you ever” had a medical condition or conviction …. since your last renewal
The Firearms Licencing unit now has serving police officers attached to the branch and they will be visiting licence holders if formal action is being considered
If in doubt, a copy of convictions on the Police National computer can be requested by anyone via the www.acro.police.uk website.
Medical history information can requested/accessed through your Doctors surgery.
